Every event has a connection.
Select a reported event to reveal its linked territories and STOXballz. Markers locate events; they do not represent verified damage boundaries.
The collection
One world. One shared ledger.
All 1,321 pieces begin at 100 game units. Event collection runs hourly on GitHub. Settlement runs on the first successful collection in each UTC window: 00:00–08:00, 08:00–16:00, 16:00–24:00. GitHub schedules can run late.
How an effect is calculated
Disaster change = severity³ ÷ 25 × signed relevance × sensitivity, rounded to 0.1. News changes use matched catalog phrases plus positive/negative headline cues, scaled by sensitivity; ambiguous or balanced signals produce zero. Each ball's combined change is limited to −5.0 through +5.0 per settlement. Its minimum value is 0.1. These are proposed game rules implemented in this release.
Severity ranges from 0.5 to 5. Earthquake severity uses magnitude; GDACS uses its published alert tier. Directly matched territory relevance is −1. Explicit concept rules connect only named catalog pieces. Effects are game interpretations, not market forecasts.
Honest geographic scope
Current feeds supply event locations and reported territories. This version highlights those territories. It does not calculate tsunami inundation or infer destruction from an earthquake's tsunami flag. Confirmed or forecast affected-area polygons require a suitable additional feed.
Coverage · 1,321 / 1,321 eligible
Live ingestion covers disaster feeds plus world, business, technology, science, culture and space news. All 1,321 catalog IDs are eligible through name/alias matches. Short or ambiguous terms require category context. Headline polarity uses explicit cue lists in the source; neutral or balanced headlines cause no movement. The rules include a tsunami type for future verified alerts. Pieces without a relevant scored match keep their value. Positive effects are possible only where an explicit concept rule matches, such as a rescue-related piece.
Data health
Duplicate protection
Each source event ID settles once. Later reports refresh its display without charging it again. USGS owns earthquake scoring; GDACS earthquake items are excluded to prevent overlap. A failed feed retains its last data; check timestamps before interpreting activity.
